Turn by Turn - Version 2

Navigator is an Australian Turn-by-Turn mobile navigation program for Laptops and PDAs

Navigator on a Toshiba e570 PDA
  • affordable, simple to use  - easy to follow instructions.

  • install it on your in-car computer, desktop/laptop, or to your CE Windows handheld PDA.

  • GPS enabled to give accurate current positioning information.

  • Designed primarily as an aid for in-car navigation, Navigator can also be used when cycling or walking.

Maps available for Navigator vary according to which state data is purchased. All States have local roads and major roads, highways etc.

New South Wales includes the Sydway image for Sydney and the Central Coast. Victoria includes the Melway image.

The map display can be moved, zoomed and have the image turned on or off by using the toolbar.

Ausway Guide
Display any Melway or Sydway map or move to a specific map grid reference.

Turn map display on or off or change colours.

Searching
Use Navigator’s Search Guide to locate streets, particular points of interest [eg beaches, restaurants, wineries etc.] or add your own user-defined waypoints. Display locations on the map, set them as the destination for laptop guidance or add to destinations list to use on PDA.

Trip Planning
This works out the shortest path based on your road type preferences, and gives turn-by-turn instructions. The trip is displayed on the main map and can be printed out.

The example below shows the shortest path when using main roads. A shorter route could be calculated if local roads were given a higher or equal preference to main roads.

Navigator on Your PDA
With a GPS unit attached to your PDA you can now easily find client locations, luncheon venues, meeting spots, or enjoy a relaxed holiday or weekend around the wineries, etc without getting lost or spending time looking up maps or directories.

NavigatorPDA is a powerful tool for in-vehicle navigation. Unlike dedicated in-vehicle systems you have the flexibility to take it with you while walking, cycling, or travelling on a bus or tram.

Driver Screen
Map Screen

The Driver Screen shows: Destination name, DTD (distance to destination),  ETA (estimated time of arrival), RTT (remaining travel time), Distance travelled so far (in kms), Name of current road, Distance to next turn [in metres], Directional indicator, current speed and instruction for next turn.

The Map Screen shows your current location, as well as proposed route. For safety reasons you should stop your vehicle in a safe place to review this screen.

Laptop Tracking
When used on a laptop computer with GPS unit attached, Navigator will give both visual and voice instructions to guide you to your destination.

Voice Prompts
While tracking with either a laptop or PDA, each turn instruction will have a brief voice prompt repeated twice. The directions will indicate 'left', 'right', or 'continue forward', plus the sharpness of the turn – 'sharp' or 'veer'.

Navigator's prompts are based upon the data provided with the program.  However, there may be circumstances where road conditions have changed, or where abnormal conditions exist. The driver must always take such changes in to account rather than slavishly following the prompts. Remember, Navigator will automatically recalculate a new route for you if you have to deviate from its suggested route.
